Senior Buyer

A temporary position has arisen within the Procurement department, for a Senior Buyer. Starting as soon as possible, this assignment will be until 31st October 2018.

The Procurement team is responsible for the delivery of all supplier services/materials to site, from supplier specification development to contract close out.

The Senior Buyer will source, process and place orders in sufficient time to meet the required delivery date, ensuring that the best total acquisition cost is achieved, consistent with the specified technical, quality assurance and delivery requirements. They ensure the plan is communicated to all stakeholders and manage the operational execution of the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) system and the purchasing of contract services as allocated.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting into the Senior Procurement Manager, the post holder’s responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Managing the MRP and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process, ensuring that the order book is delivered on time and in full
  • Issuing, negotiating and writing suitable tactical contracts for materials and services as required
  • Acting as the lead in buying best practice and contributing to the development and implementation of procurement strategies
  • Mentoring and leading the procurement team members in system and process
  • Working with the budget holders to find solutions for non standard requirements
  • Expediting on a daily basis, any deliveries not delivered on time or in full and working with the suppliers and contract managers to improve performance
  • Monitoring the performance of suppliers relevant to their transactional activity, ensuring Contract terms are monitored and performance is communicated to suppliers
  • Defining the companies stock holding levels using appropriate market intelligence and demand signals

Candidates should demonstrate and possess:

  • Experience working in procurement within an engineering environment
  • Demonstrable experience working with Maximo or another Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Experience of working in accounts, contract management, engineering and maintenance disciplines
  • Commercial and basic negotiation skills
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels in the organisation
  • Effective team worker, with the ability to work on own when required
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Effective time management and organisation skills

Candidates should hold the following qualifications:

  • Qualified to a good standard of education at GCSE level, or equivalent at grade C or above, including Maths and English.
